Year of release: 1983

PLAY ONLINE
The Dig Dug game is one of many games originaly released by the Namco company as an arcade game machine. The Atari company released the game outside of the Japanese market. Among other platforms, the game was available as a cartridge for the Atari 2600 game console.
Considering graphic possibilities of Atari 2600, the game is quite weak. This however doesn't lower the playability of the game and kids in the 80's must have had a great loads of fun playing it. Dig Dug is one of the best games for this game console.
The naeme of the game speaks for itself. Your character appears under the ground in 2D view. You are digging tunnels in the ground by moving the joystick in all directions. There are few stones and evil underground monsters here and there. The goal of each round is to kill those monsters. They are moving either in tunnels or sometimes even through the soil. You can kill them in two ways. Either to hit them twice with an electric strike by pressing a button in your facing direction, or to dig under a stone and let it fall on the monster. If you manage to kill all of them, the last one tries to escape. Feel free to let her go - nothing will happen and you can proceed to another round. Each round is a little harder than the one before. You are collecting points in the game and you have a total of lifes.
The game has 2 modes. The basic one and the one for kids. You can switch between these 2 modes in the main screen with the SELECT button. There is a symbol of a little teddy bear appearing in the children's mode.
